Baragi Krishnappa Srinivasa Murthy, who is popularly known as B.K.S. Murthy, is an Engineer by profession, served Aircraft Research and Design Centre for more than 30 years. Though he is not a student of literature and histo-ry, he evinced keen interest in these fields. He has an excel-lent command over English and Russian-languages. He has translated quite a few works from Russian to Kannada, which include world famous Russian stories, ‘Adventures of Khoja Nasaruddin’, ‘Adventures of Shveik, the Idiot’, ‘Dr. Zhivago, Russian Folk Tales’, etc. He has also translated from Kannada to English, ‘In quest of folk literature’ which is published by the University of Mysore.
He has translated 40 books from English to Kannada, covering a wide range of subjects like autobio-graphy, religion, popular science, travelogue, psychology, etc. The present work, “Russian Merchant A. Nikithin in India (1471 A.D–1474 A.D)” is the fruit of his three years hard work. This work is, investi-gation, translation and compila-tion, all at once. In this work, he is suc-cessful in resolving some of the rid-dles which were not resolved so far.
This book is a fascinating reading material for a casual reader, while at the same time provides a wealth of infor-mation for the historians.
