About the Book

The material selected from various sites by the department and displayed in the plates (showcases of the Museum), forms the source material for this work, “Studies in Prehistoric Cultures of Andhra Pradesh”.
         Brief information on the researches made and interpretations given in the lower, Middle, Upper and Microlithic Periods by scholars in the field is also recorded for a clear understanding.
          Fundamentals information in earth science, Life History and Anthropology is provided in plates as background knowledge inn brief. For a better understating of tools,  a detailed note on each artifact in plates is also given in this work. 

About the Author

Mr.DL.N. Sastry was born in the year 1941 at Mogalikuduru. a village near Rozole, in East Gadavari District. He had his school education at Malkipuram and manepalli and look his M. A.,degree in Ancient History and Archaeology from Osmania University under Professors Dr. R. Subrahmanyam and Dr. R. Narasimha Rao in the year 1969. He did his M.Phil on “Prehistoric Cultures of Manjra Basin ”under the guidance of prof. B. R. Subrahmanyam of Nagarjuna Unverisity, Guntur in the year 1985.
He joined the Department of Archaeology and Museums in the year 1970 as Technical Assistant and worked at Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Warangal. During this period, he surveyed and located Various Archaeological sites in all the three regions of Andhra Pradesh and took part in major excavations conducted by the Department at a half of site surches. Gajulabanda, Chandavaram, Rajahmundry and Chagatur. He also explored Several Neolithic - Chalcolithic Sites in Kurnool,Cuddapah and Prakasam Districts,in connection with his researh work in Neolithic- Chalcolithic period’.
He was promoted in the year 1981 and in the capacity, he worked at Warangal and Hyderabad holding the posts of Assistant Director Excavations and Assistant Director-(Regional). He also conducted excavations at the Early historic site Kesaragutta near Hyderabad city (4th-5th C.A.D..) and a Buddhistic settlement at Nelakondapalli in khammam District.He surveyed the Manjrabasin i. Medak district and explored several Archaeological Sites. At President, he is working as Assistant Director (Srisailam project).At Somasila  Village, he conducted the reconstruction work of 14 temples (datable from 11th century A.D. to 16th century A.D.) salvaged from the submergenece area of Srisailam Hydel project in A.P. during 1987-89 At present he is attending to the reconstruction work of Ramatheertham group of temples in the submersible area
